Achieving quality, equity, diversity, and to efficiently manag education is only possible with the enhancement of existing technologies within the educational ecosystem. To overcome this challenge, it is necessary to invest in research and the development of innovative technological solutions.

In this sense, NEES works by proposing alternative strategies to expand learning results, contributing, at the same time, to the evolution of scientific knowledge in the computers in education field. The center also develops projects aimed at creating high-performance computational tools and infrastructure to support educational strategies.

The center conducts actions focused on stimulating social entrepreneurship, allowing the cutting-edge knowledge produced by NEES to generate social innovation and transformation. As an example, NEES fosters the generation of spin-offs, which are businesses that are born from research performed in universities.

The institution went through rapid growth in the last four years when funds raised exceeded ten times the amount obtained at the beginning of NEES. Ten years after its launch, in 2021, the Center had duplicated its amount of projects and research.

Currently, a dozen projects funded by the Ministry of Education (Ministério da Educação – MEC) and the National Fund for Educational Development (Fundo Nacional para o Desenvolvimento da Educação – FNDE) are in progress. Only in 2021, NEES won six of these projects, whose budgets sum up to result in a total of about R$ 94 million. This constant expansion, in such a small timeframe, highlights the relevance of the institution, as well as the need to intensify research and further improve funding for the development of new projects.

Among the main audiences directly impacted by these actions are teachers, students, basic education administrators, as well as Brazilian society as a whole, to whom the Center’s projects are directed.
